Product Description

This coffee comes from some of the same lots as our washed Holong Batak, but it goes through laborious processing, called the honey method. Here the fruit is picked from the tree when ripe, the seed expunged, and then set out to dry. Much of the fruit is still attached to the seed which makes a sticky drying bed (it resembles something of a toasted Payday Bar). In the cup look for blackened plum and raw sugar.

This unique coffee comes from Northern Sumatra, on the southwest side of Toba Lake and is about eight hours of driving from Medan (six, if you know the right guy), the capital of the province. This area’s altitude ranges from 800 up to 1,700 meters (2,600 up to 5,600 ft) above sea level;  Arabica coffee trees are maintained on the higher parts of the region, from 1,500 up to 1,700 meters (5,000 up to 5,600 ft) above sea level, some of the highest grown coffee in Sumatra.

This coffee fully complies with our equitable commerce program, Home Grown.
