Mondul Estate was founded in 1931, three decades after imperial forces from England and Germany started colonization. It was founded by an Italian, Count Vottorio Davico di Quittengo (Davico), who reportedly started his young career by working in commodities in Uganda. In Northern Tanzania, he surveyed the higher elevations of Mt. Mondul and asked his family in Italy for the money to purchase it. Davico worked the farm until his death in the 1980s and is buried on the highest hill on the farm. Today, Mondul embraces its history but has moved progressively to advanced farming methods that create a sustainable environment:
• A dairy project supplying cows to staff to generate income and organic fertilizer.
• An apiary (beekeeping) program enhancing biodiversity and giving workers additional income.
• Land leasing projects allowing staff to cultivate their own plots using estate-supplied inputs and agronomic training.
• Community investments like repairing water infrastructure, supporting clinics, and providing school supplies.
• Management Philosophy: Dean emphasizes an approach grounded in trust earned through action, learning from frontline workers, and building long-term relationships with staff and stakeholders
